As with good design, Kittl’s process starts with type. Co-Founder Tobias Saul had made a name for himself as a renowned lettering artist, type designer, and illustrator before collaborating with major players such as Ogilvy and BBDO. Saul’s own portfolio reflected an increasing need for high-end hand-drawn typography, prompting him to team up with schoolmate and entrepreneur Nicolas Heymann. Together, they began Heritage Type Co., an antique font marketplace that soon took off with the design community.
Heritage Type then stood as the place designers flocked to for finding distinctive fonts. Customers, as they made their way through the marketplace, often asked to be able to obtain fonts on demand.
